.gift guide, 2015: mother's day picks.

mother's day this year is kind of a big deal. it's my first as a mother of three; a mother of a toddler and a mother of twins. three!

and i'll be working.

but that's okay. i know my thoughtful husband [he really is!] and those sweet little boys of mine will brew up something to make me feel special and loved. i personally hope it's some sort of creative craft which i can just envision them all making together or even a simple dinner that they made, i just want a little effort. it's the one day a year that i truly let it be all about me, and i really do think that's okay. being a mom, while it's the best job around, is also the hardest. we tend to give all of ourselves to our children on a daily basis, without a second thought. so an entire day dedicated to 'the mom' is high ranking in my books. and i'm not afraid to admit that. i embrace it.

so while it's not my intention to 'casually' hint for my husband to buy me any of these treats, i certainly wouldn't be upset! haha!
1] may lindstorm skin the honey mud cleansing silk || this is probably the highest on my 'want' list! with it's numerous rave reviews i feel it's truly the perfect rejuvenating treat for my tired skin. i also love the idea that actually taking the time to do this face mask may also truly make me slow down and allow a few minutes of 'me' pampering too! heck, i may even be able to enjoy a warm bath during the 15 minutes of drying time - alone!
[and it's sold from one of my absolute fave online beauty shops Eco Diva Beauty! if you haven't shopped there yet - you must! the ladies who run it are just as sweet as all the products i've ever ordered from them. and this highlighter tops my charts as my most loved beauty products! worth every penny!]

2] gardening gloves || little tomatoes! hello cuteness! i need a new pair of gardening gloves and these would be okay to look at while digging in the dirt. thanks, ikea!

3] mid-century watering can || for those who know me personally, know i very much enjoy gardening.  something about nurturing a living thing seems to ooze from me. its so gratifying to see each plant grow and blossom and i find it so relaxing. out in the fresh air and sun just rejuvenates my soul. and this watering can needs to come home to its new momma!

4] plenty more cookbook by yotam ottolenghi || i have the original plenty, as well as ottolenghi and i love them both. dying for this cookbook to add to my collection [cookbooks are a guilty pleasure of mine! i want them all!]

5] silk dress || since having three kids i find it disheartening to find clothes that make me feel like a lady. i'm usually drenched in spit-up or worse, wearing three day old leggings and an old sweatshirt. this dress would be the perfect outfit for a night out on the town with my main squeeze. sometimes you just want to put on a silky dress and some heels, am i right?!

6] earphones and earbuds set || i'm needing a set of new earphone's and i love the style and small frame of these. might even get a moment of quiet with these bad boys on....maybe....

7] pia wallen cross blanket || my obsession continues, as does everyone else's! i truly thought this was a passing trend, but it seems to be sticking and since I've had my eye on this blanket forever, this might be the time to bite the bullet.

8] black short romper || i thought these were a great one-stop shop for a busy working mom. you could dress them up or down and it's out the door looking done-up in no time flat. my kinda dressing.

#theskinnygetsdressed

since opening The Skinny, meg and i have been busy trying to get our name out there and share our shop and its products. it's easy, albeit time consuming, doing the usual sort of things like facebook posts, instagram, giveaways, etc. but we really wanted to get a few unique ideas out that will not only showcase our awesome products, but also be helpful to those that may want a little extra out of a site. this is where #theskinnygetsdressed comes into play. i've dedicated this to a new series on fancy napkin, as well as on instagram and our Facebook account showcasing both small shops, unique items, and ways to style certain pieces from our various collections.
i sincerely hope you enjoy, and that you get a little use out of this concept too! also! if you have any cool shops or items that you think would be great for this series, please reach out and send them my way! i'm always on the hunt for the newest and coolest ;)

.holiday cards.

with the cold weather taking over our city last weekend, my husband's skiing plans got cancelled as well as my overnight stay at my parents lake house, i found myself with an abundance of extra time on my hands. at first we were super bummed about it, but honestly, it may have been a blessing in disguise as we seemed to finally check off a few items on the ol' to-do list! cup half full, right?!
i spent the weekend shipping out an insane amount of packages after our black friday sale with The Skinny, then we cleaned and organized our basement, and finally spent the evening doing a little online shopping, including checking out what was the latest in christmas card selections. and i was so stocked when i came across minted! their selection of holiday cards and gifts are by far the best i've seen for personalization and i am seriously having a hard time deciding on which style i want to order for my own this year! here's a few of my fave cards and a few fave gift ideas too!

minted is having a sale now till monday with 15% off all holiday card orders over $150 with code: JOY15

dots frame || while i don't normally enjoy a frame with any sort of writing or design on it, these gold embossed dots are just too cute to pass up!
happy holidays foil pressed card || nothing like a classic happy holidays in a pretty rose gold embossed colour to brighten your holidays
recipe notebook || i adore this idea of creating a personalized recipe notebook to fill with all of baba's old recipes to be handed down year after year
card & games notebook || last year i gifted each of my family members a personalized notebook with their names on it. inside i explained that each book was to record our family card game nights. see, growing up my grandma had this old tattered notebook filled with the date, who was playing, the score, who won + who lost, and all these great funny notes about that night. it become a journal of sorts and a cherished keepsake. give this with a deck of cards to complete the idea!
more the merrier foil pressed card || obviously this applies to me personally and is a big contender for our x-mas card this year :)
luggage tag card || just adorable! and super unique!!
personalized stationary || what person wouldn't love their own personalized stationary set?! a classic gift perfect for teachers, friends, your momma or even yourself!
personalized 2015 calendar || again, a fave gift of mine to give...especially to the grandparents! minted makes just the best calendars with the highest quality!

from having nothing to do to having gotten so much done it turned out to be a most excellent weekend!

.need, want, eat, make: pregnant edition.

well, since i'm definitely feeling pregnant as of late [this belly of mine is getting huge!], my thoughts are obviously reflecting anything 'baby'....or in my case, 'babies!'
and did i mention that i only have 3 weeks left?! yep, 3 freakin' weeks till these sweet babes are in my arms and smelling like heaven.
guess i should pack up that hospital bag and install those two extra car seats....
need ||  a few good nursing sleep bras [these things i lived in for about a year when i had jack. i guess the ta-ta's just liked a little extra support when i'm nursing and it just made my sleep that much better, despite still having to get up every couple hours. i personally enjoyed this wrap type of sleep bra and desperately need to re-stock my pile. and quickly!]

want || a highlighter / eye brightener [this nars eye shadow pencil looks like a warm peachy-goldy-cream colour and just may be the perfect shade to add a lightness and brightness to my already tired eyes [and yes! i know it's just about to get worse....]

eat || freezer meals, like this coconut curry chili [or this or this or any of this. i mentioned i'm pregnant right? ha! freezer meals are actually the most perfect thing to gift or even pre-make yourself before a new baby arrives and i am personally stock piling my freezer. when you're just too tired to make anything, these are life savers. and ps! i've made that chili above and it's truly unbelievable!!]

make || a macramé wall hanging, for above each twins crib [adore these beautiful works of art, and personally think they have enough going on that they may even keep the babies distracted enough to change their diapers, etc. etc. apparently by following this diy i may be able to construct my own?!]

.this month's shopping list: august.

with my birthday falling around the middle of august, i've always quite enjoyed making my shopping list for this month [for obvious reasons!]. it never fails in helping out the male half of my duo [hint hint, babe!] with ideas which works out to be kind of a no-brainer and win-win all in one! easy for him and i get exactly what i'm lusting over that month! yay!

what's currently on my shopping list for august.
poppy barley chelsea boot || pb just released this new model and i am swooning! these may be my new fall go-to boot and i just love that they are tailored to your feet measurements making them the comfiest pair i'm sure i'll ever own!
gorjana & griffin mia tiered necklace || a new fav designer on the radar! and the perfect necklace to layer or wear alone. i also love the length of this so much. a must have!
pia wallen large cross blanket || the only blanket to have right now. it's perfection and i really really want it.
gorjana & griffin mae shimmer solitaire || and my 2nd pick from this designer. these simple, tiny rings would look great all together or worn alone. i just adore a thin band on my hands.
anthropologie nassella joggers || i am loving the silk tailored pajama pant craze right now and although i find myself a little hippy for these pants [trying to actually say: scared to look more hippy!] i think this awesome pattern would distract from any issues.
frends headphones || this big girl needs these big girl headphones in a band way. so sleek and stylish, and perfect for travel.
gorjana & griffin teagan cuff || and my 3rd pick from this designer [what can i say?! i'm a jewellery girl!]. this has been on my radar for a while and is basically the perfect piece to add to any outfit. dressed up or down. perfection.
pendelton bath robe || something about those old school hudson bay stripes...and although this is not an actual hudson bay robe, it's by a favourite company of mine - pendleton. sigh. momma could really use a new robe, especially as i plan on living in my pajamas for a while after the twins are born.

however, it was desperately needed and i've discovered some really great new products! my july favourites will be back in action and up in a week or so, so also stay tuned for that. a few of these items here may even have a little review on them so if you're into these kind of things, stay tuned!

.at 27 weeks, with the treb twins.

.at twenty seven weeks.
::still haven't cracked that envelope, although i have a serious hunch!
::i am not really craving much of anything. just random food thoughts will hit me and i'll need to have it at that given second. then i'll eat it and it passes, so not really craving any one thing in particular.
::tums, people. tums. every single bloody night.
::my back is getting pretty sore and beat-up. twin "b" apparently enjoys hanging out deep in my back, which kinda sucks. not gonna lie.
::i threw a bridal shower for my sister, and it went great. being pregnant with twins doesn't curb your lust for a good excuse to decorate and party plan.
::we bought a new vehicle to fit our growing brood! so excited about this! and we definitely spoiled ourselves in the options department. yay! i am absolutely in love.
::twin 'a' is weighing 2lb 5oz, while twin 'b' is weighing in at 2lb 4 oz.! that's 1lb growth each for the little chubbers! grow babies, grow!!
::i've been sleeping terrible. the treb twins throw a mini party around 10 pm each night. and i love it just about as much as i love onions.
::so needless to say, i'm still tired. cue my 'mini violin'.
::we finally found ourselves a maid service. omg, no words.
::i've been documenting a whole lot more of these babies growth. i've been so busy in the previous stages of this pregnancy that i feel like i've neglected the little suckers compared to the first pregnancy round with jack. trying to remedy that for the baby books...

for those of you who don't think in terms of weeks...this means i'm now over 6.5 months pregnant!! [however, these pictures were taken a week ago or so!]

.this month's shopping list: july.

this month's shopping list has me lusting over breezy summer dresses, embroidery, and floral. and a few special care products to assist against that powerful summer sun.
and yes, i am fully aware that july is almost over....sheesh. i have some buying to do!
shop: [just click on the title and it'll take you right to the item!]
1. thief & bandit maxi dress || i personally think this may be the absolute perfect summer maxi dress. a little on the higher price scale, but worth every penny. and i do believe that i could wear this bump and sans-bump, which is obviously just the extra push of reasoning i needed ;)

2. jcrew hibiscus floral shorts || this colour scale has me drooling! and that pom-pom trim...need i say more? just wish i could wear them this summer, instead of next. darn bump.

3. asos maternity embroidered sundress || actually purchased and patiently awaiting its arrival. i just can't wait to sink my claws into this dress and i will for sure do a bump update once it arrives. that's a promise.

4. bite beauty agave lip mask || on every 'must-try' list and apparently everyone knows it as well! it's always sold out...but i'm on the hunt!

5. madewell cross-stitch belt || really enjoying this shade of leather lately, and those embroidered cross-stitch detailing just adds so much more. also, this would kind of be perfect to pull in a dress for some bump highlighting action.

6. marc jacobs nail polish in colour snap! || i've been on the hunt for a great orange shade since the sun's been out and this, my friends, is it! i love the bright contrast against a tanned summer hand. also, how great would this pair with those hibiscus shorts?!

7. anthropologie dress || there aren't many words i have for how beautiful this dress it. and i think it may even have a high enough waistline  to fit the bump?! so so so pretty.

8. shiseido refreshing sun protection spray for hair and body || i always wondered how to not burn the hot of your head when you forget your hat on really sunny days. and now i have my answer. also, my son has the lightest shade of blonde hair you've ever seen and i am paranoid about it burning. i think this needs to be added to my arsenal stat!

9. bobbi brown soho chic eyeshadow palette || i've been eyeing this baby up forever now and it's potentially time to purchase. the colours in it are perfection.

.outside favourites for the 1.5 year old crowd.

with our weather scheduled to be ridiculously hot this weekend [yay! i'll take what i can get even with being 6 months pregnant!] i thought it appropriate to share a few of jack's favourite outdoor items. he's rounding 21 months old, so if you have a toddler in that age range, id grab a few of these and enjoy this weather while you can. also - besides the bit of colour you get on your skin from being in the fresh outdoors, your toddler also sleeps like a baby again! win - win!!
zokuhomme fish pop moulds || this ice pop mould & maker is basically the coolest [pun intended!] sucker around! fish bones, shark, a scuba diver and even an octopus are shaped from any juice concoction you can think up. healthy or not-so-healthy is totally your choice, but always super fun with these!

ny ball cap || after much persistence from both peter and i, jack is finally on the 'hat' train every time he goes outside. with his white-blonde hair, this has quickly become an essential for keeping our precious boys head from burning constantly. so why not make it a cool ball cap, right?

water/sand table || we actually have a similar model with a pirate ship from costco, but this dump truck table would basically be a little boys dream.

'awesome' rash guard top || while jack isn't always sporting a swim guard, if i know that we'll be outside for much of the day or if it's ridiculously hot out, i'll slip him into this for a little extra awesome spf50 protection. just remember, this doesn't replace your regular spf routine!

native jefferson shoes || basically the best water shoes around. easy to put on, lightweight and pretty darn cute! jack's already lived in his and summer has just begun!

honest co. sunscreen spf 30 spray || this spray is uva/uvb, free from harmful chemicals [non-nano] and the spray is easy enough to apply without jack freaking out the entire time [well, who am i kidding...the kid cries the second i say sunscreen - what is with that?!]. it's water-resistant for up to 40 minutes and dries quickly. i quite enjoy it.

tropical print bermuda swim trunks || well, of course i put my son in one of the coolest summer trends of 2014 - the palm tropical trend! he has more pairs than i can to share and these ones are pretty great.

colorblock chalk || jack been on a serious colouring kick as of late and getting to colour on a sidewalk?! mind-blown! now just to teach him that sidewalks and walls are not the same thing!

.this month's shopping list: june.

this month's shopping list clearly dictates what has been on my mind as of late. rest, a little mama pampering, comfort, summer weather, and the planning stages for the twins room.
shop:
1. mason pearson hairbrush || have you heard of this brush? a bit of a luxury splurge, but well worth the dolla bills from what i've heard. and since this month i'm all about pampering myself, why not give the hype a try. i have enough hair to justify it, right?!
2. maternity pajamas || i've actually found it quite hard to find a cute pair of maternity pj's. this pair cures that issue.
3. poppy barley feminine slipper || what's not to love about these flats? classic style. leather. well made. tailored to fit your feet to the exact measurement. and just basically all-around perfect.
i have been wanting them forever, and since i feel i deserve a little tlc for brewing twins and running after a toddler, that may just be the perfect excuse to finally bite the bullet for my tired and sore feet.
4. basket || perhaps the perfect laundry hamper for the twins room? could also double as a much needed and stylish toy wrangler.
5. embroidered dress || i am dying over embroidery anything right now and this dress, although not in the maternity section, may actually still fit this growing bump! yay! and it just screams 'summer' to me.
6. maternity bathing suit || is this not the cutest maternity swimsuit you've ever laid eyes on?!
7. cool names for baby book || oh, gosh. we have twins to name! what more can i say? we've been able to narrow down a few names for girls, but the boys have left us completely open, so this book [or your suggestions!!] are very much needed.
true story - last month we actually had a couple names narrowed down for boys too, and then by sheer coincidence the exact two names we choose, and damn it - also sounded great together, where snagged by a few close aquantances of mine. we had never spoken of baby names together ever, and their they were in my instagram feed complete with pictures of the two cutest baby boys attached to them. what are the chances?! so as the age-old saying goes 'can you still name your kids the same as a close acquaintance of yours?', even if you love them so?
oh, what to do... needless to say, this book may come in handy. and is much needed.

.gift guide 2013, for pete.

peter is getting more and more difficult to buy for. i find that he isn't into frivolous things, hates 'junk' [aka. trinkets, which i love!], he's not really into gaming or electronics, and buys any clothing items that he needs throughout the year. so when gift giving for him comes around [father's day, our anniversary, his birthday, and christmas] i usually want to hide under a rock.

that being said, here are some very cool items that i think would suit his fancy just fine. unique items that he may not have heard about or something a little extra special.

[one] bose noise cancelling headphones || pete is a music lover. and likes it loud, much to my old ears' dismay. these would solve all issues and keep that man very happy.
[two] shoe shine brush || one of peter's many quirks is how well he maintains his dress shoes. this would also help and be a perfect stocking stuffer for a proper gentleman.
[three] mason jar cocktail shaker || are you as serious about the mason jar trend as we are? this would be most excellent to add to the collection.
[four] belt || this worked in leather belt is lovely.
[five] espresso machine || we've been looking for a espresso/coffee machine for quite sometime and this year we may actually be able to brew more than a single cup at a time! halleluha! however question is, does this crazy machine brew coffee too? anyone? i'm the worst.....but it sure is pretty. and i guess this is kind of a gift for me too ;)
[six] blanket || this throw has such a beautiful hudson bay inspired feel to it and it's also manly enough to display all year long. while pete might not be into decor all that much, i know he'd snuggle under this warm and beautiful blanket night after night.
[seven] forest handkerchief set || ever gentleman needs a hanki. and i'm all about a neatly folded pocket square too, which these could brilliantly double as!
[eight] camo socks || while a little on the pricey side for socks, it would certainly be a treat! and isn't that what presents are all about? treating someone on something they may not normally purchase?
[nine] stubble & 'stache beard moisturizer || i adore my man with a little extra shadow and fuzz on his face and this cream is meant to moisturize his skin underneath the hair, which usually gets a little itchy and forgotten about. a little extra tlc never hurt anyone.
[ten] mug || who wouldn't want to wake up to this?

.gift guide 2013, for jack.

now that it's the first week of december and about a million other blogs have released some form of a gift guide or another, i figure i might as well jump on the band wagon and post my annual gift guide too!
this is what my sweet jack will be whispering into old jolly st. nick's ear this year. hopefully he's been a very good boy ;)

[one] ski pajamas || this is probably more for jack's daddy than anyone as he loves skiing so much, but i have a feeling our little jack will be a master of the slopes too! and these pj's are just so darn cute.
[two] wood fire station || jack loves his le van toys [he has a pirate ship & double decker bus amongst other things] and this would be just perfect to add to his little collection.
[three] faux fur sleeping bag || as noted above, jack's play teepee needs some homey items placed inside to make it all cozy and snuggly for those reading sessions jack loves. this sleeping bag is just the ticket!
[four] the little yoga mat || i mean?! right?! utterly adorable. and now jack and momma can do a little morning stretch together.
[five] love you more blanket || simply perfect. i actually want this as a keepsake it's so great.
[six] 5 string banjo || my little budding musician would love to play like his uncle luke. this may help.
[seven] camp socks || cozy camp socks. perfect!
[eight] farm to table apron set || my budding little chef already begs to be held while we prep dinner and this little apron set is just the sweetest! not to cutesie and just the right amount of awesome!
[nine] moose || just a really cute stocking stuffer.
[ten] felt campfire || jack got a play teepee for his birthday from momma and daddy. this little felt campfire would be just the greatest thing ever to situate just outside it's front opening. i can just imagine many many camping adventures in our future.
[eleven] boots || jack needs some new boots as his feet keep growing like little weeds. these are warm, lined and awesome.
[twelve] the jungle book by jennifer adams || jack actually has every single one of these books in this series and loves them all. so does his momma, so that's a win win in my books [pun intended!]. this would be a great addition, along with this one too!

.trending: camo.

right now on my radar - camo print! yep, this isn't just for hunters anymore! i don't know if the trend started with the popular show, duck dynasty, but it's been popping up in bits here and there for a while, and i am especially excited that's it's moved to clothing. i personally love the print mixed in with a fancy skirt or coordinating pop of colour [think rust orange!] and have even sported this t-shirt with a pencil skirt and cardigan at work recently.

other ways i recommend wearing? throwing on just a hint of camo with a belt or those pointed-tie flats with jeans and a great leather tan jacket, putting these adorable leggings on your child [yes, jack has them too!], layering that military jacket under a jean jacket for an awesome fall look, or even just throwing on those amazing skinny jeans below and a giant cozy sweater.

side note: i actually did find a great tee in the boys department at old navy! super cheap, in a size that fits me, and exactly what i was looking for. guess i do get lucky every now and again!! now if this would come to edmonton, i would be even more appreciative!
also - i kinda really want this too!! hahaha!

shop:
1. pointed toe flats - target
2. baseball tee - target [in the men's department, although i sadly haven't been able to track one down in canada yet]
3. belt - jcrew
4. military jacket - anthropologie [kinda perfect, right?!]
5. note books - jcrew factory
6. tee - old navy [i own this for myself, although it is kids. just size up, obviously!]
7. knit sweater - target [i own this too and love it. just shopped the men's section]
8. skinny jeans - gap [have been on my 'buy' list for a while]
9. boys sweatshirt - crewcuts [jack has this and i cannot wait till he grows into it!]

.trending: buffalo check.

what is it about this print?! the buffalo check has been popping up everywhere and that's something i, for one, am not at all sad about! i can't get enough of this print and my wardrobe is beginning to look a little like a lumberjack puked all over it - in the best possible way!
also, if you follow me on instagram, you would have seen a little sneak peek into jack's upcoming birthday party theme and lets just say that this print will be featured all over for sure!

here are few other buffalo check items that i adore - this hat, this throw [we own this!], this mens shirt, these socks, this backpack, this liquor flask, this maternity sweater, this wallet, this shirt with leather collar [i own this and love it!], and this children's sweater [so so so cute!].

.jack's threads: little titans.

you wouldn't know it, but this little fella is one sick baby today. actually, that pesky cold bug has hit this entire house with a vengeance! baby, momma, and even papa are feeling it. it's also truly a good thing blogs don't require voices or this wouldn't be up today - i've literally lost mine.
so in saying that, it's also the perfect day to lounge around in our warm and cozy comfy's, work from home and just try to get better [and not pass this terrible, muscle-aching, sore throat coughing monster onto anyone else!]. but lets just talk about these tights! i mean, come one with the cuteness, right?!?! little titans does one bang up job on making a perfect little man's tights. i really can't tell you enough about how much i love these. first of all, they look super hip. second, jack adores them. and third, just the quality and function of them! color me impressed! they have gripe's on the bottom to prevent slipping and sliding for those mobile babes, they are made of a thick thermal-like material so rips and wear isn't going to be an issue, they have an elastic waist so even a skinny mini like jackeroo [or a chubby sweetie] will fit like a glove, all while keeping this sick little dude nice and warm.
i am sold.
thank you little titans, i am your newest #1.
